IHRF Street Lighting Projects

Many rural and semi-urban areas suffer from dark streets, increasing the risk of accidents, theft, and discomfort for women and senior citizens. IHRF helps communities by supporting streetlight installations in high-need zones.

Challenge

Poor lighting makes daily movement unsafe after sunset. Women, school-going children, and elderly individuals are most affected. Some areas have electric poles but no working lights, while others have no infrastructure at all. IHRF identifies dark stretches and collaborates with local bodies, donors, and residents to improve night-time lighting for safer mobility.

Our Process

We keep the process straightforward—identify a dark location, verify the requirement, and support the installation of lighting points. Based on feasibility, we help communities with fittings, poles, wiring support, or scheme guidance.

01

Planning the support

Our volunteers inspect the area, speak to residents, and mark where lighting is urgently needed.

02

Evaluate situation

We check electric connections, pole availability, safety needs, and coordinate with local departments where possible.

03

Provide assistance

Streetlight equipment, fittings, or supporting materials are arranged depending on need and resource availability.

04

Follow-up guidance

We monitor whether lights remain functional and help communities raise maintenance requests when required.

Result

The Street Lighting Projects have improved visibility, reduced fear during night movement, and strengthened overall community safety. Even a single functional light makes a visible difference for hundreds of daily users.
